Money Coach: Building the Money Muscle with Danielle McKinley
Monday kicked off the inaugural Money Coach session with Danielle McKinley. Third Monday of every month, she's here to help you build the money muscle real estate doesn't really teach.
If you missed it live, the replay is below. Block out 60 minutes when you can actually pay attention — this one earns the time.
What we covered—
The Sotu Money Method
Danielle's framework for making your money work harder than you do. Four moves: See. Optimize. Transform. Unlock. The end goal isn't more hustle — it's passive income that lets you retire from writing deals. Eventually.
The 5 Money Archetypes
Root beliefs, core behaviors, emotional drivers. Most of us run a mix, with one or two dominant:
Savvy Saver — over-saves out of fear and the need to control
Generous Giver — over-gives for approval, struggles to receive
Hustling Hero — ties self-worth to effort, resists rest
Avoider Dreamer — feels shame or stress around money, avoids the numbers
Status Seeker — spends to impress, lets money define identity
Danielle's archetype quiz is coming to your inbox in a few weeks — I'll distribute it. Don't go looking for it yet. Do the homework first.
Money story vs. money mindset
Your money story is the emotional imprint you downloaded between ages zero and eight — the conflict, the scarcity, the scripts you absorbed at home. It isn't based on fact. It's the conclusions an eight-year-old drew.
Your money mindset is the present-day belief system. And here's the part that changes everything: it's rewirable. Neuroplasticity is real. New neural pathways form through consistent practice. The Money Muscle is a muscle, not a personality trait.
The self-preservation reframe
Danielle wants the phrase "self-sabotage" out of your vocabulary. Self-sabotage signals unsafe to your subconscious — and a subconscious that thinks it's in danger digs in harder.
Self-preservation is the more honest name. Your ego is trying to protect you from change. Name it accurately, then move through it.
Your homework (the next 30 days)
This isn't optional. The Money Muscle is built through reps. Two lines a day. Five minutes total.
1. Daily journal — 2 lines.
One thing you're grateful for regarding money
One thing you did well with money today
"Did well" can be tiny. Making an un-guilty purchase. Finally opening the account you've been avoiding. Paying yourself first. Doing the IRS task you've been dodging counts — that's showing up for yourself.
2. Set a daily money alarm.
Pick a time (3:33 is Danielle's). Name the alarm with a positive money belief statement. When it goes off, read it. That's the entire practice.
3. Send a screenshot of your alarm to Danielle on Instagram.
Yes, really. Accountability is part of the rewire. Follow her there too — she'll be available between sessions for questions.
4. Optional — re-read The Untethered Soul.
For managing the inner voice and the ego work that this whole practice rests on. If you've never read it, start now.
