Home Valuation + Insurance Check-In—

💡This makes a great Housiversary email or a once-a-year newsletter. Edit as need be!

Insurance companies are raising rates, and canceling policies — even impacting real estate deals. (We’re seeing buyers now add insurance contingencies to offers.)

It’s a good reminder to check your homeowners' insurance policy.

Here’s what to consider—

Renovations + Updates: If you've upgraded your home, make sure your insurance reflects the new value. We often forget this once we've completed a project.

Additional Structures: Be sure detached structures and their contents are covered under your policy. Did you add a detached office, or maybe a "he-shed" or "she-shed"? Make sure they’re included in your coverage.

Underinsurance Is a Bigger Problem Than You Think: Nearly 60% of homes are underinsured. A $1M policy doesn’t mean $1M in rebuild coverage — this could be a huge problem, especially with today’s building costs. Get specific with your agent, and check rebuild coverage and water damage coverage. PRO TIP: The type of water damage (rainfall versus plumbing or sewer issues) can affect whether it's covered. Make sure you have both.

Home Valuation Reports: Home valuation reports provide a snapshot of your property’s current value. These reports are a great tool when you’re reviewing your policy with your insurance provider. Most of you should see a sample report we’ve created for your home in your inbox in the next week or so—take a look and see how your home’s value stacks up. If you're not sure that we have your address or you want to be sure to get your Home Valuation Report, please reach out!

And of course, if you need recommendations for insurance providers, we can help with this too!
